U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on July 28 an agreement with the United Arab Emirates to establish Task Force Talon Synapse, the first bilateral task force dedicated to accelerating the development and deployment of artificial intelligence applications for military use. The unit is expected to launch in the coming weeks from its headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

- Task force: The team will include approximately 20 American and Emirati specialists in artificial intelligence, data science and cybersecurity.
- Mission: The task force will focus on integrating AI into intelligence operations, protecting critical infrastructure and monitoring the regional security environment.
- CENTCOM statement: CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper described the initiative as “a historic milestone” in cooperation with one of the United States’ most capable regional partners, aimed at rapidly delivering advanced AI capabilities to military forces.
- Origins: The concept was first discussed last year between Admiral Cooper and UAE National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
